My little make up artist

This is what happens when Mommy is at work and Daddy is trying to snake a foreign object from the bathroom sink (we're pretty sure it was a block....thanks Max):

Seems she's been brushing up on her art history......looking a lot like Frida Kahlo there, Lu.

On another note, so flippin' excited about my brand spankin' new supplies:

I've been so inspired lately and my creative energy has been on overdrive.  So, I spent my lunch at Artmart and finally decided to invest in a Moleskine journal and a much better mechanical pencil.

I have also decided I need a "space".  I wish there were just one more room upstairs, but it seems I'm going to have to create a studio out of one of the rooms in the basement.  SO excited to start this project!  It will give me some much needed focus (hopefully).

Stay tuned for some other projects I've been working on.....

Shake it

This past week was rough....I had super tight deadlines with work, along with "designer-block", and then a three day business trip.  Needless to say, I didn't see the kids much. So, today was a nice lets-not-leave-the-house and take pictures kind of day.

This was Friday afternoon.  I actually was able to pick Lucy up from preschool because we got back early enough.  So after a bath (oh, daddy thought it was a good idea to pack chocolate in her lunch), we sat in our favorite spot and played with hearts.

waiting for daddy and Max...

He was so excited to see me :)

This morning, I thought I would play with some SweetHarts.....this was kind of fun.

Then, we played some more....

Lucy is definitely not short on personality...

I didn't take my camera to beautiful Topeka, but I did have fun with my new "shake it" app on my iPhone:

Though travelling can be a pain, I'm pretty excited about shopping in San Fransico in February :)

Honey Honey

Sorry, couldn't think of a title, so I just named this post after the song that was on Pandora.  (I heart Feist.)

I am my own worst critic, and don't usually say this......but, I just L.O.V.E. this image of Lu.  Everything.....the blankie, the expression, the lighting.  This image personifies my little three year old PERFECTLY right now.

Playing catch up

(please excuse grammar and spelling errors....it was really late and I was really tired!)

I love Facebook......and might possibly have what some professionals would call an addiction. It has been an amazing asset to my growing business as well as a way to share my world with the ones I love, but maybe don't see as much as I would like. Then I discovered blogs.....which I have known about, but didn't necessarily care for.....too long and drawn out. Who really cares to read paragraph upon paragraph about what you have to say. But as many other photographers, I decided to start a blog.....which, noticeably, I do not do well updating.

But last week, I realized something....Lucy had said something only she could come up with....and, as usual, I updated my status to share what my crazy 3 year old had said now. And I got to thinking...what happens to all of those updates? Over time, they just disappear.....lost in "cyber space". And will I remember any those little things or how I felt? I can't remember what happened last week, so highly unlikely. I realized that no matter how hard I try, I will not write them all down into their baby books. I end up jotting them down in other random notebooks...which I found does me no good as they, too, will just get lost and forgotten. So now, I will blog....more and more. At least here, I can come back and print our story, and be more detailed....so this blog will become a little more personal.....hope no one minds :)

January 10

These images were from last weekend.....it finally was above zero, so Lucy and I went to play in the snow. She made four snow angels, kept trying to eat her own little snow treat, and helped me shovel the driveway---and every other inch of snow she found.

Then we went inside for some hot cocoa. We gave her a straw so it wasn't as messy, but it really just became a tool to blow bubbles and steer marshmallows. I really wished I had videotaped her sitting there with her cocoa because she was just so funny. First she told me that her marshmallows were taking a bath.....and then once the caffeine kicked in, she started singing "This Little Light of Mine", but it came out more like: "This Little Miney-Mine..." .....so adorable!!!

We didn't forget about Max.....he just doesn't really like snow....at.all.  But her are some shots with his favorite hat:

Oh, and we can't forget Ziggy (who also HATES the snow):

The Bailey Family

This session was done back on January 4th, but between work and a terrible sinus infection, I'm just now getting around posting the images......I'm determined to get better at this!

And rather than spending the next 3 hours trying to come up with the right words to describe just how awesome this family was.....I think I'll let the images do that.....

*loved this session!*

Thank you, Ashley, for letting me capture your wonderful family!

today

I just love days like today.  We only had one event on our calendar and were able to spend every possible minute with the kids.  So we decided to have a mommy-daughter/daddy-son day.  Lucy and I went to a photo session play date with THESE amazing photographers.......and I cannot wait to see the proofs!  Meanwhile, Daddy and Max when to watch the football game at a friends house.....where apparently Max was flirting with girls.....(Daddy sure thought that was "awesome")....
We had dinner together, and then after Max went to bed and Daddy went to hang out with grown-ups, Lucy and I made kettle popcorn, cuddled in our snuggie, and watched Mulan (which I thought was a tad violent for a 3 year old...but a much need break from Cinderella).
Before I know it, I'll be slammed with work and traveling again......The biggest challenge to date has been balancing, and right now, I'm not.....I'm not trying to fit everything evenly on my plate.....for the next few weeks, I'm just going to try to cram my plate full nothing but time with my kids.....because this is it.  And as fast as the past three years have gone by, I'm pretty sure every year here on, will be gone just as fast.

sassy...

the shirt I made for her shoot today....

I'll post more pics of the past few weeks tomorrow...
